Grand ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ Celebrated at Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Governor and CM Yogi Attend Event

Varanasi: A grand cultural and spiritual event titled ‘Somnath Sankalp Mahotsav’ was organised at Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi as part of the ongoing Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations, bringing together spiritual symbolism, cultural heritage and national pride.

The event was attended by Anandiben Patel and Yogi Adityanath, who offered prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple and visited a special exhibition showcasing the historical and cultural significance of the Somnath movement.

During the programme, attendees also watched a live broadcast from Somnath Temple in Gujarat, where ceremonies linked to the temple’s Amrit Mahotsav celebrations were being held. The broadcast included visuals of Narendra Modi participating in rituals such as darshan, kumbhabhishek, flag hoisting and delivering a public address.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Anandiben Patel described the Somnath Temple as not merely a place of worship but a symbol of India’s civilisational strength and self-respect. She said the temple’s redevelopment has significantly boosted religious tourism while also generating employment and educational opportunities for local communities.

The Governor highlighted the spiritual importance of both Somnath and Kashi, calling them two enduring pillars of India’s ancient cultural consciousness and Sanatan tradition. Referring to the repeated destruction and reconstruction of Somnath throughout history, she said the temple stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, revival and the enduring spirit of Indian civilisation.

She further stressed the importance of balancing modern development with the preservation of cultural heritage, calling it one of the defining responsibilities of contemporary India.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in his address, said that Somnath and Kashi represent two radiant centres of India’s civilisational identity. He stated that the redevelopment of major pilgrimage sites such as Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Mahakal Lok and Ram Mandir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflects India’s ongoing cultural renaissance.

Yogi Adityanath described Somnath as a symbol of national pride and spiritual resurgence, while calling Kashi Vishwanath Dham the heart of India’s spiritual flow. According to him, both sacred sites together strengthen the country’s cultural unity and ancient traditions.

The event also featured devotional and cultural performances by artists presenting programmes rooted in Indian spirituality and heritage. Guests and visitors explored the specially curated exhibition within the temple complex, which highlighted the historical journey and legacy associated with the Somnath movement.

Concluding her remarks, Governor Anandiben Patel said that Somnath Swabhiman Parv is more than a ceremonial celebration — it represents thousands of years of India’s cultural journey, embodying faith, dignity and the spirit of reconstruction.
